1. Why this change?
Until 2024, young people aged 3 to 24 could benefit from a free oral examination every three years . Now, this check-up is annual , with several objectives:
- Detect cavities, gum disease or dental malpositions earlier .
- Educating young people and their parents about good oral hygiene practices.
- Reducing inequalities in access to healthcare, especially in disadvantaged areas .
Key figure : Thanks to triennial checkups, the rate of cavities among young people has already decreased. Annual checkups aim to accelerate this trend and achieve the goal of a cavity-free generation ).
2. Who is affected?
- All young people aged 3 to 24 , regardless of their income.
- Pregnant women : Their oral health check-up is also being modernized. It can now be carried out from the 4th month of pregnancy up to the 6th month after delivery (instead of 12 days previously) .
New for 2025 : Exam invitations will be sent by email every year, except at certain key ages (3, 6, 12 and 18 years old) where a postal mail will be kept .
3. How does it work?
a. Scheduling an appointment
- No more forms needed : Since 2025, you only need to present your health insurance card and your supplementary health insurance card (if applicable) to the dentist.
- Full third-party payment : No upfront costs for the examination and associated care .
b. Examination procedure
- Complete assessment : The dentist checks the condition of the teeth and gums and looks for any cavities or abnormalities.
- Personalized advice : Prevention messages tailored to the age and habits of the young person are provided.
- Free care : If cavities or other problems are detected, the necessary care is provided within 3 months of the examination (and must be completed within 6 months) .
c. Tools for dentists
- An online service allows practitioners to check the patient's eligibility and to update their Shared Medical Record (DMP) with the results .
- An age-based prevention guide is available to standardize the advice given to patients .
4. Other developments in 2025
- Price increase : The oral examination increases from €30 to €40 , and up to €50 if it includes an X-ray or a panoramic dental X-ray .
- Administrative simplification : Paper forms are no longer required; everything is now done via the Vitale card and the digital tools .
- Extension to medical and social care establishments : An oral health assessment has become mandatory upon entry into these structures since January 2025 .
5. Why is this good news?
- Enhanced prevention : Annual monitoring allows problems to be identified and treated earlier , avoiding more serious and costly care later.
- Continuing education : Young people and their parents receive advice tailored to each stage of their growth.
- Easier access : No more administrative or financial barriers to benefiting from regular dental care.
Objective : Zero cavities, zero pain, zero exclusion for younger generations .
6. How can I benefit from it?

- Make an appointment with the dentist of your choice.
- Please bring your health insurance card (and your supplementary health insurance card if applicable).
